Queensland is stepping confidently onto the world stage, with the state’s largest-ever education and innovation delegation heading to Japan for World Expo 2025 in Osaka.
Led by Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training, Ros Bates, the mission is backing 37 of Queensland’s top universities, training providers, and education institutions as they forge new global partnerships and expand Queensland’s reputation for world-class learning.
The delegation will engage in high-level meetings across Taiwan and Japan, culminating in a major Queensland showcase at the Australia Pavilion in Osaka. The visit forms a key part of the new Queensland–Japan Trade and Investment Strategy 2025–2028, which outlines a roadmap to strengthen collaboration in education, research and commercialisation between Queensland and Japan.
“We’re taking Queensland’s best to the world and bringing new opportunities home,” said Minister Bates.
“The Queensland Government is focused on outcomes, jobs, investment and long-term partnerships that deliver for Queenslanders.”
Education is one of Queensland’s most valuable exports, contributing $6.85 billion annually to the economy and supporting around 30,000 jobs across more than 300 providers. In 2024, Queensland welcomed more than 157,000 international students from 160 countries, drawn by the state’s high-quality education offerings and vibrant lifestyle.
The mission reinforces Queensland’s commitment to connecting local providers with global opportunities, positioning the state as a key player in the Asia-Pacific’s fast-growing education landscape. From research collaborations to student exchanges, these international partnerships are helping to shape a brighter future for Queensland students and institutions alike.
With a strong presence at World Expo Osaka and a clear strategic vision for the years ahead, Queensland’s education sector is thriving—and ready to grow even further on the global stage.
