There’s no doubt about it — educators are superheroes. Whether they’re wrangling 5-year-olds through the alphabet or guiding teens through complex assignments (and emotions), teachers show up day after day with compassion, grit and that seemingly magical ability to make learning stick.
Here are 9 educator superpowers and things teachers do that deserve a daily Awesome Person Award.
1. X-ray vision for spotting a sick kid at 20 paces
Before the sneezing starts, before the “I don’t feel well,” they know. Teachers can detect glassy eyes and pale faces faster than a school nurse. As much as it’s hard to do the juggle when your own kid is sick. Spotting the lurgies at the source and whisking them out of the classroom is a skill we are ever grateful for.
2. The magical voice that calms chaos
There could be 28 children talking, one climbing furniture, another crying over a broken pencil — yet one calm “Eyes to me 2WC…” cuts through the noise like a wand.
3. Mind-reading abilities (especially during tests)
Teachers just know who didn’t study. They also know who needs extra encouragement, even if they haven’t said a word. It’s spooky — in the best way.
4. The power to stay calm while repeating the same instruction 47 times
“Line up quietly.” “Put your name on your paper.” “Please use glue, not half a bottle.” They say it again. And again. And again. All with grace.
5. Creative genius under pressure
No whiteboard marker? No problem. Rain cancels the excursion? They’ve got a backup plan. Need a history lesson via interpretive dance? They’re halfway into costume.
6. Time-bending skills to fit a week of work into a day
Lesson planning. Playground duty. Staff meetings. Parent emails. Reporting. A smile at the door at 8 am. Superhuman time management is part of the job.
