Phonics & Number Fun runs 45-minute, play-based sessions for children aged 3–5 and their parents in the Glasshouse Mountains and Sunshine Coast region.
Facilitated by a Queensland-qualified teacher aide and CELTA educator, each session combines music, movement and hands-on activities that build early literacy, numeracy, fine and gross motor, and communication skills. Phonics & Number Fun is led by CELTA-qualified English educator and Queensland teacher aide Shereen Chisholm, supporting families across the Glasshouse Mountains and Sunshine Coast.
Teaching her own child how to read, developed Shereen’s passion for supporting the exploration of letter sounds, counting and early number skills. This inspired her to create play-based sessions that give parents a fun, low-pressure way to help their children prior to schooling.
Sessions draw on Letterland music and characters, using specifically-selected phonemic awareness resources to provide a fun and educational extra-curricular experience for both child and parent.
Parents stay and participate, small groups keep sessions calm, and children are free to learn at their own pace through movement, music and structured yet flexible activities. These interactive sessions embed knowledge and skills that support parents to continue their child’s learning journey in their home.
