Mother with daughter preparing for school

Ready or Not? Local teacher publishes guide to school readiness and preparing for school

Well-respected local teacher and early childhood specialist, Kellie Moody has turned her decades of classroom experience into a heartfelt new school readiness book for parents: Ready or Not? A Parent’s Guide to Confidently Supporting Your Child for School.

With more than 30 years working in classrooms, childcare centres, and kindergartens, Kellie understands the excitement, and uncertainty, that come with preparing for school. Her new release blends practical, research-based strategies with warmth and reassurance, helping families strengthen their child’s school readiness in a way that feels both achievable and joyful.

“I want to help parents give their child the best start they deserve,” Kellie said. “It’s not just about preparing for school, but about nurturing confidence, resilience, and a love of learning that will carry children well into the future.”

Supporting school readiness with heart

Ready or Not? guides parents through everything from easing separation anxiety to establishing healthy routines and supporting emotional and social development — key areas that build strong school readiness skills. Drawing on her professional expertise and her own experience as a mum, Kellie offers simple, actionable advice families can start using right away.

“Science shows us the first five years of life are the most crucial for development, especially brain development, even starting during pregnancy,” she explained. “That’s why every small, caring step we take matters.”

A trusted guide for parents preparing for school

Kellie’s message is clear: parents and carers don’t have to navigate school readiness alone. Her goal is to provide reassurance and perspective at a time when many families feel overwhelmed by expectations around preparing for school and transitioning to formal learning.

With Ready or Not?, she hopes to empower families across the region and beyond to approach the early learning years with confidence and connection.

Copies of Ready or Not? are now available on Amazon, and Kellie will be connecting with local parents through upcoming talks and community events.
