Chris Collin (the Funky Chicken Man), is an award-winning author, based in South-East Queensland. His quirky rhyming books all have a unique feature – they are musical picture books.
With his partner and co-founder Nadia Rabiller, Funkybooks was created with one purpose in mind – to combine traditional storytelling with music to engage children of all ages and reading abilities.
Why musical picture books?
Chris says, ‘As an independent publisher, he has the scope to create a world-class musical package with every book, inclusive for everyone – even reluctant readers! By providing audio and audio-visual versions of the books and a song for every book, kids (and their adults) of all abilities and reading interest can enjoy our beautiful rhyming stories and songs. What better way is there to get kids reading than combining story with music!’
Funkybooks has produced 5 musical picture books, including the award-winning Funky Chicken series. Chris’ latest environmentally themed book The Things You Can Do with Blue Whale Poo! This hilarious, (and slightly stinky) story, celebrates a little-known fact; blue whale poop plays a crucial role in the health of our planet – ‘Poop with purpose!’
Chris will be performing book readings at the Funkybooks trade stand on the hour. Families can stop for a story, meet Chris’ puppet friends and even do some colouring-in! Chris will also be performing a mini-show on the main stage live narration to the audio-visual book. The audience will meet his puppet friends and sing and dance to one of the book songs! During this show, Chris will explain a bit more about our unique ‘musical picture books’.
